For an amateur drama festival I would like to write a short one-act play inspired by a story I once read (author has not yet been dead for 70 years). Little or no profit will result from the performance. Do I need the estate's permission to do this, or does it constitute an "idea" for which no copyright is required? Advice gratefully received!
